Martin Kollar

Martin Kollar (1971) was born in Zilina, Czechoslovakia (now Slovak Republic). He studied at the Academy of Performing Arts Bratislava, the Film faculty, camera department. He is currently living in Tokyo, Japan as a freelance photographer and cinematographer.

Today we share his photographic project Cahier. Since 2004 the French city of Clermont-Ferrand has greeted international photographers of great stature with a photographic residency on the city’s theme: “the landscape, background and Inhabitants.” In 2009, Martin traveled to Clermont-Ferrand in order to offer his own vision of the city. Interested in daily life, he tries to capture anonymous and comical, absurd or ironic situations while portraying the particular atmosphere of place.

He received several grants and awards, among others 3ppp photo-stipend, World press photo Joop Swart masterclass, Oscar Barnac Award, honorable mention, SCAM Rodger Pic award, Fuji Film Euro Press Photo Award and Backlight photography Award in Finland. His work has been exhibited in venues such as Maison Europeen de la Photography Paris France, Recontres des Arles in France, Le Château d’Eau Toulouse France,MOCA Shanghai, Guandong Museum of Art in China, House of Photography in Prague and Month of Photography in Krakow, Thessaloniki, Bratislava and Athens.

Robert Lyons lives in Portland,Oregon. He has taught extensively in the USA and Europe at various institutions including: Emily Carr College of Art & Design, Photographic Center Northwest, International Center of Photography, and the Ostkreuzschule in Berlin. He received an M.F.A. from Yale University in 1979. Lyons has received numerous awards for his work including: NEA Survey Grant, Ford Foundation Grants, and a MacDowell Residency. His work has been widely exhibited in the United States and Europe and is represented in numerous permanent collections including: The Metropolitan Museum, Seattle Art Museum, the Henry Art Gallery, Portland Art Museum, Hallmark Collection of Photography, Nelson–Atkins Museum, and Beth Hatefutsoth Museum of the Diaspora, Tel Aviv, Israel.
