Valerio Platania (Rome, 1981) is an engineer and a photographer. His recent work focuses on the relationship between man and his creations, reality and model, and nature and adaptation, and looks for personal, unlikely interpretations of the multiple worlds in which these relationships emerge. In 2010, he attended a documentary photography course at Blank Paper photography school in Madrid that deeply marked his path as a photographer. In 2012 he completed a Master study program in photography at LENS School of Visual Arts. Today we take a look at his series Base.
Base
Base is the logbook of a space journey into the new urban space. The one of industrial parks and big shopping plazas where you lose yourself looking for an oil station and end up buying a new sofa in Ikea. In his galactic expansion towards city outskirts, the man in a tracksuit stepped on those arid lands and converted them into parking lots, leisure parks and commercial plazas. Extra-planetary bases for the conquest of a comfortable life. He created a new habitat, and painted on a wall what he could not find there, more real than reality itself. A new world is coming, and nothing will stop it.
