Dan Wilton

Dan Wilton grew up in the foothills of Croydon dreaming of being the next David Bellamy. Then he went to school, fell in love with the darkroom and so became a photographer instead. His work is punctuated by his candid approach, unforced style & subtle sense of humour. Shooting a blend of portraiture and fashion, Dan works with a range of different techniques, embracing both analogue & digital formats. He lives in London & works worldwide. Today we share some photographs from his book ‘CANYON’ – a collaboration with writer Josh Jones and Ditto Press documenting the people of Runyon Canyon, LA.

CANYON

Runyon Canyon attracts a million people a year hiking, running and crawling to its top to stare at the sprawl of LA.

Fitness fanatics, bikers, bloggers, celebrities, dog walkers, Instagrammers, hippies, hobos, millionaires, gangsters, yogis, Downtowners, out-of-towners, gay, straight and every
race and religion climb above the smog for that view.

Interacting outside of your social circle is rare in LA but this mountainous trail is a social leveller. Up there all those people talk, they laugh, they flirt – they mix.

It’s just a dusty old canyon. It’s not the prettiest. But it’s the most famous.
And in LA, that counts for everything.
