Yubo Dong

Yubo Dong graduated from Baylor University with degrees in Business, and focused his studies in photography during the past two years at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Yubo was born and raised in China, and is currently working in Chicago. He is interested in the roll of commercialism and consumerism in our society.

From Idea to Impact

Since I graduated from a reputable business school with two degrees, I am confident about my understanding of business lexicons, and the meanings behind them. Though observations, researches and studies of commerce and consumerism, I am troubled by business practices that encourage consumption, and generate demand for the sole purpose of maximizing profit. I am also compelled by how business schools presented themselves as business organizations. Utilizing photography, I address the power structure of educational-industrial complexes that normalize and aestheticize perverse conceptions and practices. My works seek authority in business decisions that engrave in their slogans, adornments, structures, as well as nuances transmitted within interactions of business transactions. My works comment on Capitalism and power, and also open a dialogue on social issues and means of communication.
