Yota Yoshida

Yota Yoshida (1981) is a street photographer who lives in Tokyo, Japan. He doesn’t take many photos at once to later edit them down as is common practice, but he attaches a great importance to shoot one by one carefully. That style is based on respect, communication, perception and conscientization for the process. Each of his photos show the atmosphere of the present day in this society. It gives the impression of being almost haunted, and even scared at times, but fascinated in the strength of the use of visual language in images. Photography for him is écriture. So, he believes that “Photography is not only photography, as with the words is not only the words.”

“from somewhere, to elsewhere”

This short little story is for the answer to the questions that make up the title of a Gauguin’s painting : “Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going?”. Themes of this project are based on those universal and fundamental questions. In short, this is our story.

It’s an ongoing project that will take a long time in the making. Walk together with them, and I will keep finding for this answers.
