Ashley Bourne

Ashley Bourne (b.1993) is a photographer based in the West Midlands (UK). Having just completed a bachelor of the arts degree in Photography at Falmouth University, he is now available for commissions. In 2012 during his college education, Ashley was selected by Magnum photographer Mark Power to be exhibited alongside him as part of the Black Country Stories exhibition and awarded honorary membership to the Royal Photography Society. His most recent achievements include being labelled amongst 2016’s best photography graduates, as chosen by The British Journal Of Photography. Today we share his series, Benedict’s House.

Benedict’s House

Ashley’s photographic practise aims to explore themes surrounding social and cultural diversity, and as such can be viewed as social documentary. His first comprehensive body of work ‘Benedict’s House’ looks into the serene world of the Benedictine monastery and those devoted to a spiritual service. The project stemmed from a personal interest and curiosity, and the view that many aspects of religion are often portrayed negatively in today’s media, with complete disregard to its compelling, underlying beauty.
