Michele Vittori

Born in 1980 and near Rome, Michele Vittori has always had a passion for the visual arts and started in photography in 2008, attending technical courses at the “Graffiti” school and workshop at “Officine Fotografiche” in Rome. Throughout his early work he found a special attraction in landscape photography documentation, which has led him to produce various photographic series within that genre. Since 2015 he has been a contributor to the “Limine” collective, with his photographic series titled “La montagna di Roma”. The project developed under the supervision of Massimo Siragusa, and has been presented at “Officine Fotografiche”. It is published in limited edition. Since 2017 he has contributed to “Lo stato delle Cose”, a project to document the earthquake of 2016 in the center of Italy, and published the book “Made of the Sun” curated by Camera Infinita.

The Mountain of Rome

Monte Terminillo is a massif in the Monti Reatini, part of the Apennine range in central Italy. It became the “mountain of rome” during the rule of Fascism by creating a ski resort destined to the Roman bourgeoisie. At that moment began the anthropization of the mountain for tourist purposes. Over the years, the tourist station passed through several success stories, often not adequately supported by investments that can guarantee their durability and causing a gradual crisis of tourist activity. My investigation was born with the aim to document the territory looking at the relationship between the natural environment and its change dictated by the needs of mass tourism. Changes that radically alter the image and memory of a place.
