Zak Rose

Zak Alexander Rose (b. 1992) is an artist based in the greater Denver area. His work explores mundane daily life, and the quest of simply being a person in an ever-changing reality. He is interested in exploring the parameters of photography and is trying to push the idea of what photography can be. Zak’s goal as an artist is to help his viewers feel that they aren’t alone in the madness that is the human experience. He received a B.F.A. from the Lesley College of Art and Design in 2014. Aside from art and work, Zak spends his days taking care of his cat Parmesan.

Sunset In My Heart

Sunset in my Heart is an exploration of depression through photography, digital collage, and through ritual. Casual depression has become a much more common issue in the age of social media when the desire for validation and a sense of community never ends; it’s very easy to feel lonely in 2018.

In an effort to regain control over my emotions, I began forcing myself to see the sunset every night, and inevitably, photography became a part of this process. Sunsets can be very beautiful, and by photographing and collaging them, I’m able to instill the magic I wish to experience in my own life. Sometimes, simply being a person in the world can seem like a monumental task—my intention is to create images that feel like a really big hug.
