Danny Allegretti was born (1992) and raised in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He is currently working as the Digital Lab Assistant at the Santa Fe Photographic Workshops. After graduating with a B.F.A. from the University of New Mexico in 2015, Danny spent time as a Teaching Assistant at the Maine Media Workshops in Rockport, Maine, and thereafter traveled to Japan to work with photographer Sam Abell. Danny’s interest in working with photography initially centered around the objective and tangible aspects of a picture, as well as finding and focusing on that moment of subtle humor often inherent in the most mundane of moments. More recent work finds Danny photographically documenting his home state of New Mexico, with particular interest focused on the character of the area’s unique desert landscape and the singular interactive relationship people have with it and the impact it has on their lives.
Sandia Speedway
30 miles west of Albuquerque, New Mexico, sits Sandia Speedway, a multi-purpose, multi-sports complex hosting many different tracks for different types of racing. As such, Sandia Speedway has become a hub for late-night racing, a place for spectators to come and satisfy their need for speed. Short tracks (Ovals), Karting Ovals, Mile Dirt Ovals, Circuits, Motocross and Roadcourses, Sandia Speedway provides the necessary venues for several different types of thrilling race events such as Driftcross, Road Racing, Karting, Time Trials, Sprints, Autocross and more, bringing together race enthusiasts from all over New Mexico and neighboring states.
In this particular series, the focus at the Speedway will be the Quarter-Mile Clay track. Here, all types of modified speedsters…Cruisers, Hornets, Street Stocks, Wing Sprints, Flat Track Motorcycles, and more…are run in loops by the passionate people who own, drive, and maintain these racers. Particular emphasis will be on the drivers themselves and those who ride along, as well as special attention being paid to the unique desert landscape style of the track itself. It is hoped, in this series, not only to throw a light upon the spectacle itself, but also to highlight the singular culture of this particular and distinct side of the racing world, with respect and emphasis being paid to the people who choose to play a passionate part in the risky, high-speed stakes of high-speed racing.
