Matthew Sgambati

Matthew’s love for photography is endlessly growing as he continues to expand his education at school. He is currently majoring in photography and minoring in business at the Savannah College of Art and Design. He has kept a strong interest in portrait photography since he picked up his first camera. That same interest has led him to primarily focus on capturing images of people using warm, natural light. He produces most of his images using film, which he believes helps create the clean and natural look found in his photographs.

Parallel Forms

It’s easy to overlook details. That said, why is it we pay attention to them so closely when creating something? It’s because those subtleties contribute greatly to the formation of an object that we may perceive as elegant. It’s not so much the overall being of something that grabs my interest, but the minor attributes that form together into something that I greatly admire. A close observation of those qualities led me to the realization that details in subjects that are dissimilar sometimes overlap. With that discovery, I have generated a series of diptychs that compare vintage cars to the human body. Two elegant subjects that fundamentally share very little in common but are drawn together by the use of form and color.
