Amanda Greene

Amanda Greene grew up in Atlanta, GA and traveled to California to attend Art Center College of Design where she earned a BFA in photography. She lived in Los Angeles working primarily as a photo assistant after graduation and for a number of years. In 2010 she returned to Georgia where she continues to live and be visually inspired by her surroundings. Living in a rural area Greene draws from things she sees along side roads, in small towns, and in her yard.

Don’t Pass Out

In 2016 a friend suggested I attend an Elvis Tribute Artist competition in a small town in North Georgia. I went with my camera and met a number of “Elvises” and was a bit blown away by this subculture. These guys are serious about what they do and put on a good show. I just was at the 2018 competition (stepped up to a bigger and nicer venue) and these images are selections from both of these events. I am a fan of things colorful and as my mom might say, “tacky” and a roomful of guys dressed as Elvis sort of hit the spot for me. The title of the project, “Don’t Pass Out” comes from something I overheard one Elvis tell another before he went on stage.
