Ariana Gomez was born in Austin, Texas. She graduated with a BFA in advertising photography from the Rochester Institute of Technology and moved to New York City shortly after graduation. She has been living and working there since 2010 and concentrates on documenting the small, seemingly insignificant moments throughout the city. Her work focuses on the self in relation to living within the ordinary and mundane. Ariana has exhibited in group shows both in the US and internationally – including at Gallery R in Rochester, NY, Juraplatz Public Art Space in Biel/Bienne Switzerland and ThePrintSpace Gallery in London.
For twenty minutes, I sat on the bench right next to a red-haired woman who caught my eye – trying, trying to ask for her time. For her attention.
In the end, it was all very simple.
I asked her name.
It was Marie Ange.
These are images taken during my time in the Côte Vermeille (Vermilion Coast) in the south of France.
It was June.
And I was learning how to open my heart up to people.
