Calls For Entry

TitleN.Y. Photo Curator Call for Entry ‘The Environment & Social Activism’ curated by Morgan Post (Professor of Photography at Long Island University, NY)

Morgan Post says:
"Photography is a powerful tool for depicting injustices around the world. One of the many great injustices we face, is our very impact on the planet.

We live in a critical time where our relationship with the planet is at a breaking point. We remove resources from the ground, pollute the air and water, destroy plants and wildlife all for the sake of our comfort and what humanity has generally chosen to call “progress,” at least until recently.

However, I believe in standing up and fighting. Fighting for change, fighting for action, fighting for innovation, fighting for legislation. It is time to discard the doctrine of Manifest Destiny which has driven us toward thinking the planet was just something to use up as fast as possible, with the notion that we’ll always find a new resource to exploit.

Seeking such change is our responsibility and indeed our obligation to ourselves and future generations. The theme for this call for photographs goes hand in hand with this attitude. We all need to be activists towards protecting our environment.

Activism takes social change and awareness of who and what is causing the destruction. Creating visual records of our actions for change that are positive, or the inaction showing the further destruction of our planet are both equally important. Every single person has the power to say something meaningful about social and environmental change.

How would you change the world?"

“It appears to be a law that you cannot have a deep sympathy with both man and nature.”
Henry David Thoreau
