Why Does the Fly Always Die On Its Back?

The photographs in "Why Does the Fly Always Die On Its Back?" were born during quarantine, and they reflect that. In them are allusions to confinement and isolation, to death and the feeling that comes when the familiarity of the domestic is destabilized with a sense of the strange or the alien. Made in the mold of vanitas paintings, these are pictures about the profound dissociative effect of turning to homespun comforts to cope with an invisible disaster.
